Well we broke down and got a couple piglets for the freezer, they have a long way to go still.
They are both still a little skittish, they got out after we got them in the temporary pen, and were gone most of the day. They came trotting back around 4:30 pm looking a little rough around the edges, then trying to get them corralled was a sight to see. Don't ever let someone tell you that pigs cant move like lightning...because I'm her to tell you friend, they can!!

Anyway the pigs are back home safe and sound , the permanent pen us under construction and they will be happy and healthy..... until that day!

New Farm Pix

Lets see ,from the top we have A few muscovy ducklings, Hatched by the mama duck. Cute now but wait till you see them grown up, But thats for another post.

Second from the top we have Darlin and Clemetine, our two mini donkeys. They are just the nicest animals you can have...as long as your not a canine... they don't like the dogs!

Next comes two little goats that someone brought to us , they found them orphaned so we bottle fed them for several weeks... now you can't escape from them, they follow you everywhere.

And lastly one of our Dexters, smaller than your average cow they are. This one had a heifer this year, black just like mama!

More Baby Goats...AKA The Kids Are Loose

Well lookie here, another spring and another mess of goats. I was about to go to bed the other night and I thought I would go check on the Nubian nanny that was as big as a house, when i made it to the shed she was awful quiet. Sure enough she was in the corner and a head was already showing. Things moved pretty good and in about ten minutes three little doelings were out and lookin for grub.

But wait , there's more to this story, The next morning before work I went to check on the aforementioned kids and found not three but four, count 'em four kiddies .
And yes the Adult goat in the photos is not a nubian for you experts , that is an Alpine , she thinks those are her kids !!

And yes, I can't get all three in the same picture at the same time....yet!!!

Until Next time.

April 9th, double whammy at the farm!

Before I left for work this morning at 5:00am, I stopped by to check on Cookie who was due any day. I found Cookie by the barn, no calf yet , but I could tell she was close.
Well sure enough mom called later to say a bull calf was born and both were doing well. Here is the newest edition. Fast forward to around 8:50 pm, I went to check on a nubian nanny that was also round with kid, she was laying in the corner of the goat shed , but something was different, she was too quiet , and sure enough she was busy pushing out a kid. Then another , and another for a total of three doelings. Well I sure thought that was the end of the kids for this one, but no, when I went to check on them this morning I found another kid that she had aftyer we all left last night. So we set a new farm record last night , four kids from one goat....and I think Saucey , the mamma goat , set a personal best...........Oh the things you will see .

Hello From The Farm

Greetings all!!

Welcome to Southeast Texas and our little neck of the woods.

This will be the ongoing story of our family and the crazy farm things we do, what crazy things you ask? Well for example, stay up till all hours of the night waiting on goats to kid, working in the dead heat of the day putting up fence, that type stuff.... oh the list goes on and on, but you get the picture. More to come as events occur! Stay tuned!!
